Xpander is Apollo’s wireless intelligent fire detector range, designed to be used where electrical wiring installations are restricted or difficult. Typically used in architecturally sensitive buildings, Xpander can also provide a solution for open air sites and temporary structures not suitable for wired systems. Using a loop connected interface, each Xpander device is assigned an address which is recognised by the fire control panel as the addresses of the hard-wired devices. As with every wireless system a site survey is critical to the system design.
Apollo Xpander Wireless Devices provide a flexible solution for addressable fire alarm systems where traditional cabling is difficult, costly or disruptive to install. Find answers to common questions about compatibility, applications, standards and system benefits.
What is the Apollo Xpander Wireless fire alarm system?
Apollo Xpander is a wireless fire detection system that allows addressable fire alarm devices to communicate using radio technology rather than traditional fire alarm cabling. It is designed for applications where wiring installation is restricted, impractical or undesirable.
Where are Apollo Xpander Wireless Devices commonly installed?
Apollo Xpander Wireless Devices are commonly used in heritage buildings, listed properties, museums, schools, hotels, office refurbishments, healthcare facilities and temporary structures. The wireless design helps minimise disruption while preserving building aesthetics.
What devices are available in the Apollo Xpander range?
The Apollo Xpander range includes optical smoke detectors, multisensor detectors, heat detectors, manual call points, sounders, sounder-beacons, interface modules and survey tools. This allows installers to create a complete wireless fire detection solution.
How do Apollo Xpander Wireless Devices communicate?
Xpander devices communicate using secure radio links to a loop-connected wireless interface. Each device is individually addressed and appears to the fire alarm control panel in the same way as a hard-wired addressable fire alarm device.
Are Apollo Xpander Wireless Devices compatible with Apollo XP95 and Discovery systems?
Yes. Apollo Xpander Wireless Devices are designed to work with compatible Apollo XP95 and Discovery protocol fire alarm systems through dedicated Xpander interface modules.
What are the benefits of a wireless fire alarm system?
Wireless fire alarm systems can reduce installation time, minimise disruption to occupants, eliminate extensive cable runs and provide greater flexibility during extensions, refurbishments and temporary building projects.
Are Apollo Xpander Wireless Devices EN54 approved?
Yes. Apollo Xpander products are developed to meet relevant fire alarm standards, including EN54-25, which covers fire detection and fire alarm system components that use radio communication technology.
Do Apollo Xpander Wireless Devices require a site survey?
Yes. A wireless site survey is an important stage of system design. It helps verify signal strength, identify potential obstacles and ensure reliable communication between devices and interface units throughout the protected area.
Can Apollo Xpander be used to extend an existing fire alarm system?
Yes. Apollo Xpander is frequently used to extend existing addressable fire alarm systems into new rooms, refurbished areas, outbuildings and other locations where installing additional fire alarm cabling would be difficult or costly.
