The Discovery Black Base Sounder connects directly to an XPERT 7 or XPERT 8 base, making installation quick and efficient. Whether used beneath an Apollo addressable smoke or heat detector, or fitted with a decorative base cap for standalone use, this unit is designed to minimise install time and wiring complexity. To take full advantage of the built-in Short Circuit Isolator (SCI), it must be installed using the SA5000-20X XPERT 8 Base (sold separately). This isolator ensures the loop remains operational in the event of a wiring fault, enhancing the system's overall resilience.

Flexible Audio Performance

With 15 selectable evacuation tones, including the widely recognised Apollo evacuation tone, this sounder is adaptable to regional fire safety standards and user preferences. Each primary tone is paired with a secondary tone for alert or staged evacuation applications, allowing for flexible alarm strategies. Volume levels are equally configurable, with seven sound output settings ranging up to 95 dB(A) at 1 metre. This enables precise control over alarm audibility, ensuring the tone can be heard clearly without overwhelming the space.

On-Site Volume Adjustment and Setup

During commissioning, engineers can use a magnetic wand to select the required volume level at each individual unit. Additionally, a unique acoustic self-test function allows installers or maintenance teams to verify that the sounder is working correctly—without needing to initiate a full alarm test across the system.

Intelligent Addressability and Group Control

The sounder supports individual, global, and group addressing modes, offering enhanced flexibility for larger and more complex fire alarm systems. This allows multiple devices to be activated together, or separately, depending on the design of the fire safety plan.
