The Apollo Series 65 A1R Heat Detector (55000-122APO) is a conventional rate-of-rise heat detector designed for reliable fire detection in areas where smoke detectors may be unsuitable. It monitors changes in ambient temperature and responds to a rapid increase in temperature, while also providing a fixed upper temperature limit for fire detection.

The Apollo 55000-122APO uses a matched pair of thermistors to monitor temperature. Under normal conditions, both thermistors remain at a similar temperature. During a fire, the exposed thermistor responds rapidly to the rising air temperature, creating an imbalance that causes the detector to enter an alarm state.

The Series 65 A1R Heat Detector is particularly suitable for environments that may be naturally dirty or smoky, where the use of a smoke detector could result in unwanted alarms. The detector operates across a wide 9–33 V DC supply range and can also be integrated with security systems when used with the appropriate 12 V relay base.

A1R, BR and CR are Rate of Rise detectors, designed to detect a fire as the temperature increases, but they also have a fixed upper limit at which the detector will go into alarm if the rate of temperature increase has been too slow to trigger the detector earlier.

The Apollo Series 65 range is electrically and mechanically compatible with earlier Series 60 devices, making the 55000-122APO a suitable replacement option for compatible installations.
